The bespoke process

The bespoke journey is an invitation into the world of understated and timeless creativity and craftsmanship that defines my brand, Sara Lois Jewellery. This service is a wonderful opportunity for you to create a piece of jewellery that is entirely your own, that represents your bond, your love story and celebrates your unique style.

1. design brief

The journey begins with a complimentary meeting with me where I spend time with you to get to know you, your story and your style. This early stage is really important to get a feel for your personality, your likes and dislikes, and what your dream bespoke item looks and feels like. As the design is completely unique and bespoke to you, the design process can vary from anywhere between three weeks to six months, depending on how specific your initial ideas are. At this point an idea of what you’re looking for (Pinterest comes in handy!) and your budget is needed. Once we form an idea of what you’re after, a quote will be provide and a 50% deposit required at this point.

2. idea creation

From there, I will come up with a series of initial ideas before moving onto computer software to present the design to you in a further meeting. I will always create bespoke designs in digital form. You’ll see a clear, 360 degree virtual view of the ring, before we move on to the next - very exciting - stage! With straight forward designs such as traditional wedding rings, ideas are materialised straight in metal.

3. Choose materials

Once we are happy with the design, we can discuss materials if we have not yet done so in the initial stages. We’ll discuss metal types - colour, texture, weight; diamond and gemstone ideas - cut, clarity, colour and carat. I will always have a sample of metals in my workshop for you to see and feel. Similarly, a colour palette of gemstones is also available for you to decide what colour your dream bespoke item will sparkle.

4. Production stages

As we move along this wonderful creative journey, you will receive a 3D resin print of your design for approval. This is an opportunity to try on the design, make sure you are happy with the shape, and wear, before any tools touch metal and to make any last minute changes. I will work closely with you at every step of the bespoke process, to ensure your dreams become a reality!

5. hallmarking

I use the ancient technique of lost wax casting with most of my bespoke jewellery designs, then the ring will be sent to the London Assay Office to be tested and stamped to certify metal purity. My initials, SLR, will also be stamped on the ring as a mark of my creation, for you.

6. Finishing Stages

Although my design process is contemporary and enjoys a focus on modern, digital techniques, I am also passionate about true craftsmanship. My work bench is full of traditional tools and skills to file, sand and polish the metal casting, before the chosen diamonds and gemstones are beautifully set.
